This item, by Roger, is a Bonsai Display Table, 800mm x 300mm. It has 70mm square legs, a 90mm deep skirt made from pine and with the top formed from a finger jointed bed frame in the wood store. All the timber is biscuit joined and the tops of the legs are raised slightly for effect. It has a sprayed lacquer finish.
Geoff and Charlie’s QE1 Deck Chairs
Two deck chairs Charlie and Geoff have been rejuvenating. No repair work has been carried out on them since they were built.
The deck chairs are from the “Queen Elizabeth” ship and were constructed in the mid 1930’s.
They are made of teak with solid brass fittings.
The chairs were for 1st class passengers only.
Geoff’s Table
This table has a diameter of 400 mm and is 500 mm high. The top and legs are “Crow Ash” and the centre pillar is “Cedar”
Geoff’s Chopping Block
This chopping block (table) is app 900 h x600x500 mm and is constructed of recycled Douglas Fir (Oregon). The top is constructed of 99 squares 50x50x80 squares and glued with Bondcrete. each row was glued separately the the 9 rows were glued together. The corners were cut out for the legs to fit. The draw will slide both ways with a stopper preventing from being pulled right out. The lower section was sprayed with white lacquer. The top was also sprayed with clear lacquer and then oiled.
Allen’s Bowls
Allen Beard was next with three bowls, two made from Silky Oak and the large one
from Camphor Laurel. The fruit in one of the bowls is an apple and a pear and these
are beautifully made, the apple even having the stem attached. The bowls are finished
with a sprayed lacquer and there are no rough surfaces when turning across the grain.
Allen, is still learning the craft of turning from the Woodturners of the Hunter (WOTH),
